Like A Handlebar

The Bowmaster is a great device to teach proper bow grip. I've been taking lessons for two years but still haven't gotten the hang of the bow grip (a skill that you never stop learning). With the bowmaster, I simply place my fingers in the grooves and start playing. There is even a little indentation for the tip of your pinky (very helpful as I never knew exactly where to place it). I instantly became more comfortable and less tense when playing and removed the grip after two weeks. I may need to use it again in the future, but its easy installation will make that a cinch. To install: remove the screw from the end of the bow, slide out the frog (do this with the bow lying on a table to prevent the hair from getting messed up), slide on the bowmaster, and put everything back together. I thought I'd have to have a pro install it, but it was very easy to do myself. The ONLY drawback is that it makes the bow "fatter" at the grip point and may seem awkward at first. I highly recommend this to all beginner and intermediate violinists who want to ensure a proper right hand position.
Great for Beginners

I enjoyed learning the violin with this and it was very comfortable to use. That is also the problem since I got so used to having it on there I found myself missing it when it wasn't. It is a great way to learn finger placement which seems to be my biggest problem. For me the biggest problem is sticking with technique like posture and finger placement so this is a big plus. The other problem I have is my long boney fingers so they are a little more bent than I think they should be. Other than my personal problems with it I highly recommend for beginners or people with problems with finger placement. The violin in my mind is complicated and needs to be practiced a lot and I am twenty six years old so time to practice is very hard to come by. It is nice to find help products whenever I can to make learning a little easier. The violin purist might be against this but for me a self teacher I am for it. So whatever your view buy it if you think it will help b/c it did for me.
Effective But Has Some Minuses

After playing violin for years and having several violin teachers my bowhand suffered a personality disorder. Trying to reclaim the beautiful tone I once had, I bought this contraption to help my bow changes, etc. It does work to make the bowhand less stressful.
The cons is that you can't fit your bow into your violin case, so you always will have to remove it before packing it into your instrument. It can interfere with the wiring around your bow and also the pad that is there.
